Murphy Applauds President-Elect Trump's Focus on America-first Economy

Press Release

Date: Dec. 22, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Tim Murphy (PA-18), Chairman of the Congressional Steel Caucus, applauded President-elect Donald Trump's formation of the White House National Trade Council (NTC), which will lead the Buy America, Hire America program, and his selection of Dr. Peter Navarro to serve as Assistant to the President and Director of Trade and Industrial Policy:

"This is an exciting time for American steel and manufacturing and I look forward with great anticipation to the next session of Congress working closely with President-elect Trump, Dr. Navarro and the White House National Trade Council to craft better trade deals, fight back against illegal trade practices being used by foreign trade cheats like China, and stop the exodus of jobs from our nation's shores. For the first time, there will be a council within the White House that puts American workers, American steel and American manufacturing first.

"Over the past two years, the Steel Caucus fought some tough legislative battles and, I'm proud to say, we won some great legislative victories for American steel and manufacturing. But that's only just the beginning. President-elect Trump, unlike any other President in recent history, has laid out an aggressive agenda to champion American steel, hold our global trading partners accountable, and craft strong trade agreements that bring jobs back home to manufacturing regions like Southwestern Pennsylvania. Looking to next session of Congress, the Steel Caucus will be working closely with the incoming Administration, the White House National Trade Council, and House Leadership to stay singularly focused on bolstering our U.S. steel economy to keep it Made in America."
